Are you working your way through a novel and wish you had a workshop where all of your chapters would be read in a timely basis? This novel-writing workshop is developed specifically for the novelist. Class size is limited to allow every student to receive critique time each week. Up to twenty pages (5000 words) can be handed in on a weekly basis, and the pages will be distributed ahead of time so that all of the material is already read prior to each class. No time will be spent reading material aloud…all time will be spent on critiquing the chapter. This intense twelve-week workshop will allow you to consistently move forward on your novel, providing you with support, honest and helpful critique, and a positive community. Students will also receive a line-by-line edit and a thematic critique of their work from the instructor.

This class will get you well on your way to starting that novel you’ve always wanted to write! You won’t finish the novel in six weeks, but specially designed discussions and exercises will move your mind forward, allowing you to see beyond your pages to The End. Facets of fiction, such as characterization, dialogue, and setting, will be discussed, as well as issues specific to the novel – especially stalling! Taught by internationally published and AllWriters’ director, Kathie Giorgio, you will leave this class with a solid amount of pages completed and the confidence necessary to do the rest.

Before the end of the first session, the student will have an understanding of the basic structure of a screenplay and the industry-accepted format of the script. Then the real work starts...and the fun. Through the use of selected movie scenes, the student will learn the importance of the opening scene, protagonist and antagonist, supporting characters, subject matter, plot points, research, conflict, and the chemistry of characters. The student will develop an idea for a script, and will complete five to ten page character examinations of the protagonist, antagonist and key supporting characters. By the end of the session, the student will have completed a detailed treatment of their story, and begun the first draft of their script. The instructor is W. W. Vought (Bill), a produced Hollywood writer of both film and television.
